Primary Sources

A primary source is a document, speech, or other sort of evidence written, created or otherwise produced during the time and place that is being studied. It is any material (documents, objects, etc.) that was produced by eyewitnesses to or participants in an event or historical moment under investigation. It is the raw materials of history. Secondary sources, in contrast, are interpretations based upon the examination of multiple primary sources.
